EV Car Conversion checklist?
My overall goal is to make, obviously, an electric car. I am researching but I know that I am missing a lot of parts. Here is what I need so far... Specs on the parts would also be nice
-Car with manual transmission ('62 Austin Healey Sprite)
- Electric motor
- Lots of batteries
- DC to DC converter for accessories
- Attachment plate for trans.?
- motor control (hardware and software, w/ regenerative braking if possible)
- battery management (hardware and software, depending on batteries)
- cooling system (motor, batteries, electronics)
- FUSE!
- spare fuses
- more spare fuses
You can't just hook up a 20 or 50 kW electric motor to a bunch of batteries and switch it on. Unlike a combustion engine, an electric engine won't stall if blocked. And even if that would work, switching it off without frying everything in your circuit is a major...ehmmm...opportunity for learning.
