Is a product available to turn Toyota interior lights off automatically after the ignition is off?
I operate a fleet of mostly Toyotas for CityWheels Car-sharing. Our customers sometimes leave interior lights on (map lights, dome lights, etc) after they lock up and leave -- which eventually kills the battery unless someone comes along and turns them off.
I've noticed that certain cars (Chrysler?) have interior lights that seem to get their power cut after the ignition has been off for awhile (e.g. - 10 minutes).
Is there a relay or other product I can install on our Toyotas that will do the same thing? Any way to rewire the cars to achieve automatic shutoff after there's been no ignition for some time?
I could rewire to prevent power to accessories if the key isn't in the ignition, but that means customers will enter a completely dark car at night (no dome light).
I'm experimenting with LED bulbs to minimize the power drain when lights are left on, but that's a band aid solution.
Any ideas?
