What car is cheap to run and can handle high mileage?
I drive approximately 100 miles a day, 5 days a week and need to know what type of car (make and model) would have low costs to run with this sort of mileage? I currently have a Hyundai Santa Fe and converted it to duel fuel, so it now runs on petrol and LPG, everything was fine for the two years but I have spent half the value of the car on repairs this year alone. I want to know what car I should consider part exchanging it for that will last longer and not cost as much to repair annually.
I have two dogs and a baby on the way, so I need a four door car, 4x4 is not a MUST, I just bought one as it was the only option on part exchange after my Ford Fiesta two door died from just two months of me driving it the miles I do now.
Any help will be greatly appreciated - I've searched the internet but can't find a list hehe.
I'd also go for a Mondeo, but the petrol version.
I have a 2L Ghia (hatchback). The fuel consumption is very good, It will often hold over 40mpg for weeks at a time and on long runs it's up to around 44 - 45 at a steady 70mph.
Both the performance and handling are superb.
Mine's got over 110,000 on it and my brother put almost 300,000 on one.
The only fault on the Mk3 is a dodgy inlet manifold on the earlier ones, but one made after 2003 should be fine. Other than that, all you need are routine services, oil change etc.
