Which one of these two cars is faster?
A 1979 Ford Cortina 3.0L V6
Or a 2005 Ford Fiesta 1.4L
The thing is my logic tells me the 3.0L is faster but my uncle told me that newer cars focus more on Horsepower and that it being a 3.0L doesn't matter.

According to torquestats web site the Fiesta has a 0-60 time of 7.9 seconds. A 1979 Ford Cortina with a 3.0 isn't known, however a Capri with that motor (a similar car size and weight) 0-60 mph took 8.8 seconds, so by that, the Fiesta is faster.
