changing engine maybe.?
I have a 1.4petrol mk4 golf and the engine is tired due to badly maintained by previous owners. I have seen an engine for sale which is quite cheap but it is for a mk2 golf and it is a 1.8 gti 16v engine. Would this engine work in my car without changing the drives or ecu etc.....?
Definitely not you would have to change all those and as the body is very different the engine mounts may well be totally in the wrong place. The gearbox would have to be changed along with everything else that bolts to the engine.
Not a practical proposition unless you are very skilled, have lots of time and equipment.
