two cars on my mind... help?
so between the 2008 (used but certified pre-owned) Volks Wagon Golf GTI vs 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T ((both are automatic trans)) and i live in florida (so no mountains or snow or anything). im choosing for my second car, like trading in my 2009 corolla, and im looking for more horsepower and fun! yet still safe and quality! i know Hyundai and VW has a big gap, but still!
so far i see a lot of people like the Genesis more, it does have a bit more hp and by the looks, it has better aerodynamics. but also, the GTI has paddle shift gears (which i find fun and i can switch to automatic if i don't feel like being so sporty all the time) and yes its 2008, so i gotta make sure its still legit. the VW also has a sun roof, leather seats, and seat heaters. just thought i'd mention that
first, i'll admit that i do have a slight bias towards the coupe because #1 I hate hatchbacks, and #2 I'm about to get a new gen coupe (yes, 2.0t AT!!) within a week or so.
Anyways, I haven't test driven the Golf because obviously I don't like hatchbacks, but I know several owners who absolutely LOVE their cars. The car is pretty popular and performs well. It has more features than a base gen coupe, such as the sun roof and leather seats (but seat heaters in florida..is that even necessary? lol)
However, I think it's got a premium gas recommendation which right now = $$$$$, where as the gen coupe runs on regular. Also, the GTI is FWD, while the coupe is RWD. I can say the coupe has AMAZING handling and is tons of fun to drive...btw it does have paddle shifters, just like the GTI so you can still have your fun. The exterior of the coupe blows the GTI away (IMO of course) but the interior is somewhat cheap. It's not horrendous, but it's not great either. Regardless, you forget all that once you start driving.
I'd say go for the genesis coupe. It might save you money in more ways than one (gas price and possibly maintenance costs), it's RWD, it's brand new, it's got a good amount of power and awesome handling, it does have paddle shifters, and it's still rather rare (at least here up north, you don't see too many). I can't wait to get mine, and I hope you get one too!
:edit: for the guy who said get rid of the badges..hyundai already thought of that; if you decide to buy a genesis coupe you can elect to have a "wings" emblem put on both the front and rear, so it won't say hyundai anywhere on the exterior of the car. the only place it'll be is on your steering wheel.
